Helping Those Who Need It Most: Veebar Tech’s IoT Development Project for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing 2.0

Veebar Tech is thrilled to announce that we have received support from IEEE EPICS to continue the development of an IoT system that can greatly benefit individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing.
We are currently seeking volunteer students to join our team and assist in the development process. This project is divided into two distinct phases, each lasting approximately 5-6 months, for a total duration of 10-12 months. Each phase has its own specific objectives and tasks.
Phase I:
As the first phase of this project, our focus is on the hardware and firmware development of the sound detection system.
Starting Date: immediately

In this phase, the students will work on:

  • Electronic design (schematic and PCB) of a battery-based system
  • Firmware development and improvement using ESP32 firmware.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance (QA) of the designed PCB
The ultimate goal is to create a functional prototype of the sound detection system that will trigger a wake-up upon detection of a loud sound and transfer data through the wireless protocol MQTT.

Phase II:
As the second phase of this project, our focus is on the Central Hub and Cloud development of the sound detection system.
Starting Date: May 2023

In this phase, the students will work on:

  • Understanding and deploying end-to-end set of our central hub OS for sensor and cloud communication.
  • Understand and improvement of our cloud infrastructure including work with mongoDB.
  • Understand and improvement of our end-user front end development, including work with react web-app and app development

The ultimate goal is to create a functional system that can receive the sensory data, generate a database and provide high quality visualization and alert of the end user.

Our team has already devoted a considerable amount of time to this project, and this is an opportunity for students to learn about Veebar Tech’s development and enhance their knowledge. If you are a college/university student seeking to work on a real-life project in the IoT field, here are a few reasons why you should consider joining our team as an IEEE volunteer:

  1. Impactful technology: Being a part of a project that has real-world applications and can benefit others is a rewarding experience.
  2. Hands-on experience: Gain hands-on experience working with IoT technologies and skills that are in high demand in the tech industry.
  3. Flexibility: Work on different aspects of the project depending on their interests and skillset.
  4. Future opportunities: Building a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills and experience in IoT smart solution technology development in industry level, which will be a valuable asset when seeking internships or job opportunities in the future.
  5. Mentorship from entrepreneurs and high-level engineers: opportunity to work with and learn from experienced engineers and mentors. They will gain insights into the industry, and have the opportunity to ask questions and learn from experienced professionals.

Starting Date: May, 2023
