What is the difference between a quantity takeoff and an estimate?
A takeoff counts and measures what is on the drawings. An estimate puts prices on those quantities, plus labour, overhead and profit. You need the takeoff first.
How long does a quantity takeoff take?
It depends on the size of the job and the trade. A small job can take a few hours. A full set of drawings can take days.
What software do contractors use for takeoffs?
Many use on-screen takeoff tools that measure right on the PDF, like Bluebeam or PlanSwift. Some still use a scale ruler and a spreadsheet.
What are common quantity takeoff mistakes?
Using the wrong scale, missing items on a sheet, and counting the same item twice. Missing an addendum is another. Tie each line to where it is on the sheet so it is easy to check.
Is my drawing kept private?
