The problem

One missing safety item can cost you $2,000,000.

An inspector can ticket you, stop the job or take you to court. And the list of must-haves grows every time a scaffold, crane or trench shows up on site.

$ What it costs

One item is missing. Here is what can happen.

  • A ticket on the spotAn inspector can ticket you and your worker for each missing item. A ticket is $250 to $650, plus a fee.
  • A stop-work orderThe inspector can stop the job until it is fixed. Your crew waits. Your job runs late.
  • A court fineUp to $2,000,000 per charge for the company. Up to $1,500,000 for each owner or officer. Up to $500,000 and a year in jail for a supervisor.
  • PrisonWhen a worker dies, the boss can be charged with a crime. In a 2009 Toronto case, 4 workers died. The project manager got 3.5 years in prison.
  • Lost work and lawsuitsMany owners and GCs check your safety record before they hire you. WSIB does not cover the public. If someone walking by gets hurt, they can sue you. And if a sub has not paid WSIB, you can get the bill.

02 How AI does this job

Let AI do the busy work. Your team stays in charge.

    1. It keeps your must-have list for every site: training cards, WSIB clearances, permits, postings and inspections.
    2. It tells you weeks before a card, a certificate or a clearance runs out, and asks the sub for the new one.
    3. Your super walks the site and sends photos. It writes the record and chases each open item until it is closed.

Around this job, the same AI Employee also:

    • Writes the daily site report from notes and photos.
    • Keeps the deficiency list and chases each trade.
    • Fills the hazard forms and files them by job.
    • Tracks training and WSIB clearances, and flags what runs out soon.
    • Finds new bids that fit your work, every morning.

Great company to work with, incredibly detail oriented and easy to work with. We really appreciated how they focused on solving the problem, not just appeasing customer desires. The work was returned ahead of schedule with capabilities on par and beyond what we were expecting. …

    04 Questions

    Short answers.

What happens if a safety inspector finds a violation?

They can write an order. They can give you a ticket or stop the work. The worst cases go to court. In Ontario, a court fine can be up to $2,000,000 for a firm.

Can a supervisor go to jail for a safety violation?

Yes. In Ontario, a supervisor can get up to a year in jail. If a worker dies, the employer can face charges too. That is under the Criminal Code.

What has to be posted on a construction site?

In Ontario, post a copy of the OHSA. Post the Prevention Starts Here poster too. Have more than 5 workers? Then also post your health and safety policy. The checklist shows the rest for your kind of work.

Who is responsible for safety on a construction site?

Each person on site has duties. The constructor has the most. In Ontario, that is most often the GC. The GC must make sure each employer and worker on the job follows the rules.

Does this checklist work outside Ontario?

No. It is built on Ontario's rules, the OHSA and O. Reg. 213/91. Other provinces and US states have their own rules. Their fines are not the same. It is a general list. It is not legal advice.

Can AI help run a site safety program?

Yes. Our AI Employee tracks each card and each check. It tells you before something runs out. It chases what is missing.
