AI for construction › Procurement

The problem

The machine you own sits in the yard while you rent another one.

Nobody adds up the hours, so you keep paying insurance, storage and loan interest on a machine that barely runs. Or you rent all year when owning would cost less.

The fix ↓

01 Free calculator. Your own numbers.

Rent it or own it? See your break-even hours.

For construction companies with 3 to 50 staff. Type the machine's price, what it sells for later, the costs to keep it, your hours a year and the rental rate. See which costs less, and by how much.

What your result looks like

374 hrs/yrbreak-even
Closeown is $1,300 less at 400 hrs/yr
$23,700to own, a year
$25,000to rent, a year

Example: a compact track loader with the numbers shown in the boxes. Your own prices give your answer.

Example numbers, not a real quote. Yours use your own prices.

02 How AI does this job

Let AI do the busy work. Your team stays in charge.

  1. It logs machine hours from timesheets and site reports.
  2. It shows each machine's hours against its break-even, every month.
  3. It flags machines to sell, to move, or to stop renting, for you to decide.

Around this job, the same AI Employee also:

  • Sends bid packages to subs and suppliers and chases the quotes.
  • Levels quotes line by line and shows the real low.
  • Writes POs and matches them to delivery slips and invoices.
  • Books deliveries and sends the super tomorrow's gate board.
  • Finds new bids that fit your work, every morning.

Great company to work with, incredibly detail oriented and easy to work with. We really appreciated how they focused on solving the problem, not just appeasing customer desires. The work was returned ahead of schedule with capabilities on par and beyond what we were expecting. …

04 Questions

Short answers.

Is it better to rent or buy construction equipment?

It depends on how many hours a year you use it. Use it a lot and owning most often costs less. Use it now and then and renting most often wins.

How do you work out the rent vs buy break-even?

Find the hours a year where owning and renting cost the same. Use it more than that, owning wins. Less, renting wins. Fuel and the operator are left out. You pay for them both ways.

What costs go into owning a machine?

What it loses in value each year. Interest on the money tied up. Insurance and storage. Repairs for each hour used.

How do you measure equipment utilization?

Take the hours the machine really worked. Divide by the hours it was there to use. Log the hours each week from the hour meter or time sheets.

Should I sell a machine I already own and rent instead?

Run the numbers. Use what you could sell it for today as the price. If your hours are under the break-even, selling and renting costs less.

Can AI track equipment use?

Yes. Our AI Employee logs machine hours from time sheets. It flags machines that drop under break-even.
